Student Research in the Department of Kinesiology

The United States is facing a critical time in history with the lack of trust between police and civilians.

The use of excessive and deadly force by law enforcement has become a focal point for communities, local, state, and federal government, and the media.

Our study is aimed at helping to find better ways for police officers to respond in the most stressful situations. Through specific training, we will help improve situational assessment and the use of appropriate verbal and nonverbal communication.

By supporting this study, you can:

  • Help Kinesiology students engage in valuable service learning and research
  • Help train law enforcement officers in proper response techniques
  • Help train law enforcement officers in effective communication skills
  • Promote law enforcement’s willingness to use new technology and innovative training techniques

If successful, this study could be the first to demonstrate that minimal additional training could save many civilians lives.

Your donations will help fund:

  • Equipment needed for the training program
  • Materials needed to examine the stress levels of officers
  • Focus group incentives

Cortisol Sample

For $25, we can measure cortisol (a stress hormone) in an officer being tested

Eye Training

For $50, you can help an officer conduct specific eye training that targets an improvement in shoot/don't shoot responses

Sponsor an Officer

For every $100, an officer gets the training needed to examine if the additional eye training improves a shoot/don’t shoot response.
